Black Women Reclaiming Our Grace

Before being enslaved, raped, beaten, and murdered by Europeans, Black women were revered as Queens and Goddesses. Some were rulers of nations and fierce warriors. Some even led armies against the invading white man. But, when finally conquered and enslaved, Black women were reduced to being mere chattel. Their black skin became a badge of inferiority. They became depicted as ‘niggers’ ‘mammies, Jezebels, and Sapphires.

Yet, despite this horrific dehumanization, Black women invariably maintained their dignity, faith, and a strong will to survive against all odds, dispelling age-old myths and reclaiming their Grace. Over the years, Black women have freed themselves from negative stereotypes and proudly accept their spirituality and Blackness. Black women have worked hard to reclaim their Greatness as portrayed in movies, books, and corporate America. Black women have reclaimed the Grace given to them by God. They walk proudly, filled with dignity and purpose. Black women proudly wear their hair in beautiful styles relevant to their African Heritage. Black women’s skin color comes in many hues, from mellow yellow to blue Black. Their thick lips, broad nose, and hips are gratefully accepted.
